Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC) - Port Moody

Access a health care provider to receive ongoing medical care and/or timely care for urgent, non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
The Port Moody Urgent and Primary Care Centre (UPCC) provides timely access to care for urgent, but non-emergency health concerns when patients are unable to access their primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner) within 12-24 hours. The UPCC also serves patients who do not have a primary care provider as well as assisting them to find one.

Urgent Care is available on a walk-in basis, with patients seen in order of urgency. Doors open to patients at 9:00 a.m. Please note that line-ups are not permitted outside the clinic.

The UPCC has social workers available for any patients in need in the Tri-Cities or New Westminster region (Tri-Cities, New Westminster, Anmore, Belcarra) (referral required). The role of the social worker is to assess and intervene in complex situations which may include the following:
  • Vulnerability due to cognitive/physical deficits; and abuse, neglect/self-neglect
  • Complex individual and family systems dynamics
  • Illness, disability and loss of independence
  • Compromised ability to remain at home
  • High-risk behaviours
  • Financial hardships
  • Unsafe environments
  • Legal/ health care planning inquiries
  • Inability to access community resources


The UPCC has a Primary Care Dietitian to help support:
  • nutrition related disease prevention or management (mild to moderate)
  • targeted, short term, medical nutrition therapy
  • navigation to nutrition related community supports and resources

Reasons to see the Dietitian:
  • chronic disease management (HTN, dyslipidemia, liver disease, gout, DM*)
  • gastrointestinal concerns (Celiac, IBS, IBD, GERD, constipation/diarrhea NYD, post op GI surgery)
  • food allergies, sensitivities and intolerances
  • preliminary support for disorder eating (does not qualify or is waiting for eating disorder program appointment)
  • malnutrition (unintended weight loss, muscle wasting poor appetite)
  • weight concerns related to a health condition **
  • New diagnosis DM or IDDM, refer to Diabetes Health Center. Primary Care RD can see while on waitlist ** Obesity Canada recommends aiming for "best weight" (wherever weight stabilizes when patient is eating well and exercising while living a life they truly enjoy long term). Goal is ultimately health-promoting behaviour rather than weight change.

The UPCC also has a Primary Care Counsellor who can provide short-term counselling (6-8 sessions) and referrals to other resources if the patient is needing further support.

Who is the primary care counsellor intended for?
- For clients with mild to moderate mental health and/or substance use concerns
- For clients who are not eligible for counselling through other means (ie. private pay, extended health benefits, Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) services, through work, FNHA, ICBC, CVAP, WCB, etc.)
- The counselling is focused on the present, not the past (no trauma processing)

Reasons to see the Counsellor:
- For support with symptoms of anxiety or depression
- For support with managing triggers or stress
- For support with life transitions or grief and loss
- For support with family conflict, domestic violence or abuse
- For support with passive suicidal ideation
- For coping tools and skill building


To Access the Counsellor - any Primary Care offices in the Tri-cities or new West areas may fax the Counsellor with reason(s) the patient needs help with, as well as supporting documents, to 604-469-3121.
